After multiple episodes of suspense, plots and backstabbing, Celebrity Traitors has reached a thrilling finale
Warning: spoilers ahead - This article reveals key moments from Celebrity Traitors finale
Over the course of the show, audiences saw eliminations, double-crosses, intense glares, and a memorable moment that pierced all tension.
However on Thursday night, the ultimate victor of the inaugural celebrity edition was revealed.
Out of 19 contestants, just a handful were left standing: Traitors and faithfuls facing off for the prize.
Soon, the competition tightened to only three contenders: the remaining contestants.
In the end, comedian Alan Carr emerged as the champion, in a shocking outcome that went viral and made him tearful.
"This has been destroying me, my apologies," he exclaimed, revealing to the remaining faithfuls that he was actually one of the deceivers. "I feel terrible about this."
"You did brilliantly," they comforted him. "It's all right."
Social media quickly erupted with the news. "The worst deceiver being the best traitor ever," commented a viewer.
"It couldn't have been a better conclusion," stated another, while a third called it "the television highlight of the year."
The organization he selected, Neuroblastoma UK, will receive all the prize money, with the total amount reaching eighty-seven thousand five hundred pounds.
Alan Carr's transformation from comic relief to cold-hearted killer was among the most memorable aspects of the series.
But his win still shocked viewers in shock, according to industry observers.
"The thought of him, among everyone, pulling off an expert performance in deceit felt just as probable as him maintaining a straight face through his comedy routines."
On subsequent discussions, fellow players summed up why no one had ever really suspected him.
"He might have appeared to breakfast in a green cloak and I still wouldn't have thought he was a traitor. His humor distracted me," one participant said.
"Most people didn't vote for him because how can you vote for a person so charming?" asked another celebrity.
Carr said he had "absolutely loved" his experience with the show.
"I'd like to participate once more... I doubt it would be successful a second time!"
Thursday evening's installment was lengthened to over an hour on television. There was a different start than usual, as every celebrity knew who'd make it at the morning gathering.
Viewers heard some very uplifting, and very un-Traitors-esque soundtrack, as we recapped some moments from each of the finalists' time in the castle.
True to form, Alan Carr gave us unforgettable quotes.
"Let's face it, I started this game a bit of an anxious mess. I've thrown close allies under the bus, I've eliminated beloved figures openly. Apparently I'm more deceptive and player than I thought."
Meanwhile, another contestant noted that reaching the conclusion was "way more stressful than competing with England", while another said he was "completely amazed" to have made it so far.
Early on in the episode, various contestants appeared to be making a bid to become the fashion standout of the competition, replacing an earlier departed style leader.
The winner appeared at the morning meal looking like a 1950s US chat show host in patterned burgundy attire, later switching into an embellished light-colored outfit.
However, he got outstyled by a fellow player's burgundy formal wear. Impressive style.
Next up was the challenge, with the remaining contestants getting on board a train named - of course - The Deceivers' Railway.
This task saw them ripping up portraits of former contestants. Spare a thought for a player who was hit on the head multiple times by the lid of a substantial container.
Soon after, the moment arrived for the roundtable.
The deceivers did a pinky promise beforehand, pledging to stick together. "We've come a long way, I won't throw him under a bus," stated a player, while their partner just giggled.
And one did stick to their agreement. But, having slipped unnoticed for the majority of the competition, their partner still received the majority elimination votes.
The last deceiver appeared he was in a world of pain to be the final deceiver remaining. "Being alone, I feel terrified," he said. "I'm a loose cannon, without direction."
Online platforms and viewers were similarly upset.
"I hoped against that player to be banished. A truly loveable traitor," commented a commentator.
"Your legacy will remain in the show's legacy," posted a different viewer.
But there was no time to dwell on this departure. Soon, the game reached the final stage - which was the moment everyone anticipated.
The last players gathered around the ceremonial fire. And the alliance broke down, precisely when it was most crucial, in an absolutely shocking development.
One contestant was eliminated in dramatic fashion - after a shock vote from their partner, who betrayed them.
"It hurts to be stabbed in the back at the final moment like that," remarked the eliminated player. Subsequently, we learned that if they ever communicate, the betrayed player calls their former ally as a traitor.
Ultimately, only three contestants remained in the game: the last participants.
One player, looking incredibly smug, chose to conclude the game. So did another, and everything depended on the third, who did the same - which meant that the traitor was the winner.
According to commentators, the moment where the other players comforted the champion was "beautiful TV". "I predict it could be a contender for outstanding scene at next year's awards," they said.
Happily, the winner quickly regained composure from his bout of tears, and was able to enjoy the moment.
"What a rollercoaster. I thought I was terrible at deception, my expressions gave me away and now I stand a winner," the winner said.
And he even made light of the memorable elimination - his close ally in an early episode - by reaching over the presenter in the concluding moments and making contact.
"You've got something on your face," he said, with his characteristic laugh.
The recent episodes of famous people scheming, plotting and sometimes surprising incidents may feel like one big crazy jumbled dream. Yet it actually occur. It will be remembered fondly.
