Homages Continue for the Reiners as Autopsy Reports Face a Security Hold.
Over a fortnight following the shocking loss of celebrated filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, the entertainment community persist in remembering the couple.
‘Life is Pain Without You’: Cary Elwes Remembers His Director
Writing on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's 1987 classic *The Princess Bride*, explained he only now felt ready to express about his personal sorrow.
"Enough time has passed that I can finally articulate my loss into words," wrote Elwes, noting that his introductory moment with Reiner left him smitten. "As we began spending more time together I realized this was someone I desired in my life."
The actor shared archival material from the production, adding that he cannot recall "any day without mirth".
"The movie is about love, loyalty and sacrifice. Principles that Rob held dear. Which is among the many reasons he was the best person to helm it," Elwes continued.
He additionally honored Michele Reiner, stating: "Claiming that they were a incredible duo would be an oversimplification. My heart still pangs every time I think of you." He concluded with a line from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you."
Martin Scorsese Recalls a Fellow Artist
In a different piece, legendary director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he first met in the 1970s.
"Immediately, I loved hanging out with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was hilarious and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese said.
Scorsese mentioned Reiner's acting part in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, portraying the father of the lead role.
"He was skilled at improv with the best. He was a master at comedy, he worked seamlessly with everyone, and he grasped the personal struggle of his character," Scorsese wrote.
Court Proceedings: Autopsy Reports Sealed
This week, a Los Angeles judge ruled to bar the disclosure of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, following a petition from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A legal directive issued a embargo on the investigation to prohibit the public release of "any investigative information, notes, reports or photos" pertaining to the active case.
The coroner's office had already determined their deaths were the consequence of foul play, with a public database citing the cause as "multiple sharp force injuries".
Response and Criticism
After the killings, public individuals offered different comments.
Former President Donald Trump wrote on the matter, offering controversial statements that were met with immediate backlash by several public figures.
Podcaster Joe Rogan added his perspective to the those speaking out last week. Talking on his show, Rogan labeled the comments as "shocking" and implied they showed a concerning absence of compassion.
Rogan finished by proposing that an associate should have acted when the choice to weigh in on the tragedy was made.
