Marnus Labuschagne Dropped from Australian ODI Lineup Versus Team India

Labuschagne finds himself omitted from the three-match ODI series against India, with high-performing Queensland colleague Matt Renshaw getting a surprise selection.

Recent Form Result in Exclusion

The right-hander was left out from the ODI team after managing only a single run in each of his two innings during the top-end series against South Africa in August. He has a top score of forty-seven in his last 10 ODI innings.

The 31-year-old has played 68 one-day internationals and accumulated 1,871 runs at an average of 34.64, but will now continue to press his claims a Test team comeback in time for the Ashes beginning in Perth on November 21.

Renshaw's Return and Other Squad Updates

There have been indications of a improvement in form with 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw also hit a century for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.

Renshaw could to make his white-ball international debut in the forthcoming series against India after his last inclusion in an ODI squad in 2022.

The left-hander has played 14 Test matches with the most recent appearance in India in 2023 but is also seeking a red-ball recall as Australia look for a fix to their batting top-order problems.

Pace Additions and Injury Updates

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc is back for the ODI series against India after having time off since excelling for Australia in the clean sweep of West Indies in July.

BBL performer Mitch Owen might get his ODI debut after sustaining a head injury in the build-up to Australia’s most recent 50-over series against South Africa.

Skipper Pat Cummins remains on the sidelines as he works to regain fitness from a back injury by the time to captain Australia in the first Ashes Test in November.

Squad Selection Strategy and Fixtures

Australia have named a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the Ashes approaching, although Glenn Maxwell will be absent for the five-game T20 series due to a wrist problem sustained in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will lead both the ODI and T20 sides after hitting a ton in the last match against New Zealand to secure a 2-0 series win last week.

“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be player management through the back end of the series as individuals prepare for the summer through domestic first-class matches,” Australia chair of selectors George Bailey said.
“The bulk of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an important period in the preparation for the T20 World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously prepare certain individuals for the Test series ahead.”

Australia’s three-game ODI series against India begins on October 19 in Perth, before the rivals play five T20 internationals from 29 October.
